The 1990s at Nuffield Hospitals
Expansion of Nuffield Hospitals continued throughout the 1990s with another seven hospitals – a mix of established private hospitals and new purpose-built facilities – joining the Group. The additions were in response to continued growth in the demand for first-class private healthcare from both the insured market and self-pay arrangements with private individuals.

New Hospital Additions during the 1990s included:
- Brighton
- Bury St Edmunds
- Guildford
- Haywards Heath
- Ipswich
- Nottingham
- Warwick.
Healthcare Developments during the 1990s
By the time the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act was passed in 1990, Nuffield Hospitals had already launched its first Assisted Conception Services (ACS) unit. Other ACS would follow and, using techniques such as in vitro fertilisation (IVF), they have helped thousands of childless couples to start a family. The infertility treatment clinics at Nuffield Hospitals today rank amongst the most successful in the UK.

“Private healthcare continues to provide leading technology, strengthening the service it offers.”
