Clinical Governance
The Healthcare Commission in England and the Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care (the Care Commission) are our regulatory bodies. They are independent bodies set up by the government to promote and drive the quality of healthcare and public health.
In England, we are regulated under the Care Standards Act 2000 (as amended by the Health and Social Care Act 2003), and inspected against National Minimum Standards and Regulations based on the fundamental principles that reflect:
- Patient-centred services
- Patient Information
- Accountability
- Safety and quality assurance
- Consistency
In Scotland, we are regulated under the Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001, and inspected against National Care Standards based on the fundamental principles that reflect:
- Dignity
- Privacy
- Choice
- Safety
- Realising potential
- Equality and dignity
